Building a Culture of Integrity and Excellence

The people of today’s generation are slowly beginning to realize that the culture that we have inherited from that of antiquity is now changed. If we take another look at today’s culture, we will find that we have started disregarding our own cultural heritage, imitating others and never realizing that we are somewhat insulting our own traditions. For now let us take a look at revising our culture for better, if not excellent, quality and for moral and ethical principles. EUTHANASIA – How should we view it

On February 25,1990, at 5:30am, 26 year old Terri Schindler Schiavo from Florida, U.S.A., sustained severe brain damage due to sudden cessation of her heartbeat. For 15 years she had been in a persistent vegetative state and on life support. Her husband and legal guardian, Michael Schiavo, had battled Terri’s parents for seven years over his efforts to have her feeding tube removed, saying she would not want to be kept alive artificially and should be allowed to die. On March 18, her feeding tube was removed by the state court order. Terri Schiavo, 41, died on March 31, 2005. A federal judge would later decide whether withholding or withdrawing food, fluids or medical treatment from an incapacitated person violates the Constitution or U.S. Law. Incidents such as this one bring up the controversial subject of “mercy killing” or euthanasia. Read more…
